Sri Lanka began their defense of the SABA Women’s Championship title with a game against Bhutan, where they registered Sri Lanka recorded a massive win, 98 – 33.
Sri Lanka had the first possession of the game and Sasanthi Samarasinghe started the scoring for team Sri Lanka with a free throw. With the height advantage in their favour, Sri Lanka blocked their opponents’ chances in scoring and grabbed 80% of the boards.

In the first few minutes, the Lankan ladies took the lead with both their defense and offense on point. Bhutan did show some skills in their defense in the first five minutes in the first quarter but it was not good enough to stop the Sri Lankans in their scoring.
Sri Lanka’s half-court trap defense made a huge impact on the Bhutan ladies, it was a ‘steal the ball and make the bucket’ situation in the first two quarters. Moving to the last two quarters Sri Lankans made more substitutions giving the chance to all the players to make their mark on the court.
