Yupun climbs up in World rankings

Sri Lanka’s fastest man Yupun Abeykoon has climbed up to the 20th position in the 100m Men’s World Rankings after an outstanding year of performances, the latest being the 5th in the Diamond League Final 2022.

This is Abeykoon’s career-best rankings in Men’s 100m World Rankings. Yupun now has 1285 ranking points while Trayvon Bromell leads the ranking with 1457 points.

The Italy-based sprinter, who improved the National and South Asian region 100 meters record to 9.96 seconds last year, clocked 10.14s to a headwind of -0.9m/s, at Commonwealth Games 100m Final in Birmingham to become the fourth Sri Lankan Track and Field athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal after Duncan White, Sriyani Kulawansa and Sugath Thilakaratne.

According to this week’s world rankings, Abdul Hakim Sani Brown of Japan is the only athlete ranked above Abeykoon in the 100 metres in Asia.
