Two games of the ongoing Schools first-XI Cricket tournament were worked off today (14th September) at Negombo and Kurunegala.
Maris Stella College registered a 5-wicket win over Mahinda College in their Tier B encounter worked off today at Negombo. Maris Stella’s number 3 batter Shane Adithya’s eye-catching century was the cornerstone of their victory. Adithya made unbeaten 105 runs off 112 balls with 13 fours and 3 sixes.
Earlier in the day, Mahinda College was restricted to 228 runs thanks to the excellent bowling performances of Hasindu Perera and Nethum Basnayake who picked up 3 wickets each for the lads from Negombo. The skipper of Mahinda College Dhanuja Induwara top scored for his side with a brisk knock of 86 runs off 108 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes but it went in vain as Maris Stella College chased down the target of 229 with ease in the 44th over with 5 wickets in hand.

Maliyadeva College registered a convincing win over Gurukula College in the other encounter worked off today at Kurunegala. Ushan Bimsara (62), Dimath Abeysinghe (3/19) and Gayana Weerasinghe (3/35) were the chief architects of Maliyadeva College’s win.
