Drama ensued at the Havelock Park last evening when the much-hyped up ‘night’ game between the newly commissioned Hambantota Sharks and league defenders Havelock Sports Club hushed into darkness when the flood lights went off on the dot of kick-off.
There was uncertainty and both teams stayed around the grounds as did the spectators for a full 45 minutes as new generator power was called for.
After the long wait, finally the Hambantota Sharks walked off the field into their dressing room as the match was declared abandoned for the day. However the lights came on in the next moment and though Havelock boys remained, the Sharks who had already changed refused to come back on to the field.
On everyone’s mind was the question is the man forfeited or would it be replayed? ThePapare.com spoke with the SLRFU and was informed that no decision has been taken on the matter thus far and that there would be a meeting this morning and a decision would be arrived at thereafter.
ThePapare.com will keep posted on developments.
