Twelve matches of the SLC Major League Tournament continued for day two today (20th August), at several venues across the island.
Avishka Perera’s magnificent double century (236) and the 5-wicket haul taken by the speedster Mohammed Shiraz helped Colts CC take the upper hand against Kandy Customs SC on day two.
Kamindu Mendis of Colombo Cricket Club and Anuk Fernando of Badureliya Cricket Club were the two standout performers with the bat on day two. Mendis was the highest run-scorer of the day as he made 147 runs off 220 balls, with 14 fours and a six against Sinhalese Sports Club.
Fernando stroked 138 runs off 262 balls with 19 fours and a six against Negombo Cricket Club. While the first day’s play belonged to the batters, day two was dominated by the bowlers as six of them took 5 or more wickets.
The veteran left-arm spinner Gayan Sirisoma registered the best bowling figures of the day, taking 7 wickets for 41 runs for Navy Sports Club. Apart from him, Danushka Sandaruwan (Negombo CC), Kaumal Nanayakkara (Army SC), Nimesh Vimukthi (Panadura SC), Chalana de Silva (Badureliya SC) and Mohammed Shiraz (Colts CC) took 5+ wicket hauls today.
