S. Thomas’ College batter Ryan Fernando smashed a record-breaking double century against Isipathana College in their drawn traditional encounter, worked off today (18th June) at Mount Lavinia.
After been put into bat first, S. Thomas College posted a mammoth score of 420/8 before declaring their innings in 127.1 overs. Thomian batter Ryan Fernando scored the highest score at S. Thomas’ Grounds, posting an unbeaten 252 runs off 334 balls.
He surpassed Bertie Wijesinghe, who recorded 235 runs in 1939 against St. Sebastian’s College, breaking an 83-year old record. Legendary Sri Lankan Cricketer Kumar Sangakkara had scored the 2nd previous highest score in 1997, smashing 198 runs.
In reply to the Thomians’ massive score of 420, the visitors posted 145/5 as the match ended in a draw today at Mount Lavinia.
