The Sri Lankan men’s hockey team made a convincing start to the Men’s Asian Games Qualifiers thumping Singapore 5-2 in Bangkok.
Singapore started the game wonderfully with two early goals in the 13th and the 18th minute through Yuhair M. Sabri and Yap Wee Lee.
But the resilient Sri Lankans scored in the 24th, 27th and the 28th minutes of the game via Chathuranga Chandrasena, Buddika Dias and Vipul Warnakula to take the lead at Half time.
Vipul Warnakula later scored two more second-half goals in the 50th and the 59th minute to seal the victory.
Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh on Tuesday in the next pool B fixture.
