Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha were crowned champions of the Under 19 Girls Inter Schools Cricket Tournament as they beat Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda by 66 runs in the final, which wasworked off today (02nd May) at Bloomfield Grounds, Colombo.
Having won the toss, Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya opted to bat first and posted a formidable score (199/5) on the board, thanks to the in-form batter Vishmi Gunarathne’s brilliant century. Gunarathne scored 125 runs off 92 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 135.87.
The girls from Gampaha starred with the ball as well, restricting Anula Vidyalaya to 133 runs as they clinched the title with a comprehensive 66-run win. Vidushika Perera was the pick of the bowlers for Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya as she bagged 3 scalps for 30 runs.
Meanwhile, Devapathiraja College won 3rd place in the tournament as they defeated Wadduwa Central College by 54 runs, with the 3rd-place match held at the same grounds in the morning.
Imesha Dulani’s heroics with the bat (54) and a collective bowling effort led by Rashmi Nethranjali (2/13), Sapna Madubhashini (2/13) and Hiruni Hansika (2/04), steered Devapathiraja College to a convincing victory.
