Three traditional encounters of the U19 Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (30th April) at Colombo.
After being 71/4 at stumps on day one, Prince of Wales College were bowled out for 135 runs for their first innings as they lost the remaining 6 wickets for 64 runs in the morning session.
Royal College began their second innings 63 runs ahead and posted 154/2 before declaring the innings. Sanvidu Senaratharachchi top-scored with a knock of 57 runs coming off 88 balls with 3 fours.
Chasing 218 runs to win, the Cambrians showed a much better batting display in their second innings, posting 128/2 in 46 overs.
Having put on 367 runs for their first innings, Trinity College backed it up with a brilliant bowling performance, restricting Wesley College to 187. Theeraka Ranathunga was the star performer with the ball for Trinity as he bagged 4 wickets for 63 runs.
The lads from Kandy began their second innings 180 runs ahead and posted 111/3, with Sri Lanka U19 cap Pawan Pathiraja making headlines with an elegant fifty.
The traditional encounter between St. Benedict’s College and St. Anthony’s College ended in a draw today at Anthony’s College Grounds, Katugastota. St. Anthony’s College managed to take honors in the drawn encounter thanks to the all-round brilliance of Asitha Wanninayake (80 & 4/18).
