117th Lovers’ Quarrel between Richmond College and Mahinda College commenced today (17th April) at Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Having won the toss, Mahinda College chose to bowl first and got off to a great start dismissing Richmond’s first 2 wickets for just 33 runs.
The opening batter Tharinda Nirmal and number 4 batter Bhanuka Manohara put on a 55-run partnership for the 3rd wicket rebuilding the innings to a certain extent but it wasn’t enough for Richmond College to set up a solid score on the board as they were bowled out for 174 runs in 60.4 overs.
Nirmal and Manohara were the standout performers with the bat for Richmond College as they put on 67 & 34 runs respectively. Shehan Hasaranga (3/53), Danuja Induwara (2/23) & Dinura Kalupahana (2/27) starred with the ball for Mahinda College.
In reply, Mahinda College also struggled with the bat as they lost 5 wickets for 68 runs at stumps on day one. Nalaka Jayawardana bowled a brilliant spell for Richmond College where he picked up 2 wickets for 9 runs in his 10-over spell which included 4 maidens.
