The 2nd day of the 2nd semi-final of the SLC Major Club Emerging 3-Day Tournament 2022 happened today, as Sebastianites C & AC were reeling on 53/6 in their 2nd innings despite having won the 1st innings. The match is being played at the P. Sara Oval Stadium in Colombo.
A brilliant display of bowling by Colts CC led by their Skipper Jehan Daniel brought them back to the game after a poor 1st innings batting display. Early in the day, the Colts succumbed to the spin of Tharindu Ratnayake, managing just 113 after they bundled out the Sebastianites for 142 in the 1st innings.
However, the game remained in the balance with the Sebastianites being 82 runs ahead of Colts at close of play. The unbeaten batting duo of Vihan Gunasekara and wicketkeeper Vimud Sapnaka will be shouldering all hopes of the Sebastianites as the last pair of recognized batters for their team. A draw from this position or even a rain-washout will be sufficient for them as they have already claimed the 1st innings win.
On the other hand, the Colts bowlers will be coming hard at them early tomorrow to restrict the lead as much as possible and then try and chase it to record an outright win, as it is their only remaining way to book a spot in the final against Tamil Union C & AC from this point onwards.
In batting, Sandun Fernando’s 46 for the Sebastianites remained the highest individual score of the match, while Muditha Lakshan top-scored for the Colts with 35. Apart from Daniel’s 5-fer (still counting) and Ratnayake’s 4-fer Rohan Sanjaya, Kavishka Anjula, Tehan Schaffter and Tharusha Fernando claimed 3 wickets apiece.
The game will resume tomorrow for the final day’s play.
