Hameed Al Husseinie College defeated Kalutara Muslim Central College 2-0 in the final of the Oxford President’s Cup 2020 played at the Racecourse International Stadium.

In the road to the final, Hameedians defeated D.S. Senanayake College 6-0 in the pre-quarter final, Wesley College 5-0 in the quarter final and Maris Stella College 7-2 in the semi final. Kalutara Muslim Central College defeated Dharmadutha College 4-0 in the pre-quarters, Al Azhar Central College 2-0 in the quarter final and S. Thomas’ College 2-0 in the semi final.

Neither side could settle into the game in the initial minutes though the Hameedians did get a couple of free-kicks which were wasted. Mohamed Sarfan terrorised the Muslim Central defense on either wing while there were a couple of questionable refereeing decisions, one of which was a denied penalty appeal by the lads from Kalutara.

The hosts, Hameed Al Husseinie College did take the lead before half time in the 40th minute, when Dinesh Suren found Mohamed Sarfan, on the edge of the box, with a wonderfully weighted through ball and Sarfan made no mistake with his first time finish.

On the hour mark matters became worse for the visitors when their skipper Mohamed Ammar was sent off for a second bookable offense. With Muslim Central chasing the game and being a man down, spaces started to open up at the back, one of which allowed Sarfan to score his 2nd with a neat finish in the 86th minute.

In the 3rd place encounter Maris Stella College hammered S. Thomas’ College 5-0. Supun Peiris scored in the 9th minute while Nishar Fernando doubled the lead in the 40th. Nipuna De Mel scored twice in the 54th and 62nd minutes before Mohamed Kalam scored the 5th in the 77th minute.
