Kandy and Jaffna held commanding positions against Galle and Colombo in their respective encounters of the four-day competition of the inaugural National Super League, which continued for the second day at the Galle and Hambantota International Cricket stadiums.

Kandy vs Galle

Kandy resumed day two on 373/4, but lost the remaining six wickets for 109 runs as they bowled out for 482 for their first innings. The Skipper Kamindu Mendis, who remained unbeaten on 90 runs at stumps, went on to score his century as he made 111 runs off 166 balls with 14 fours.

The seamer Heshan Hettiarachchi and left arm spinner Nimesh Vimukthi shared 7 wickets between them for Galle team.

In reply, Galle posted 185/3 before the umpires called stumps on day two. The opening batter Pabasara Waduge impressed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten century.

Jaffna vs Colombo

After being 311/4 at stumps on day one, Jaffna continued their domination with the bat, adding 244 more runs to the overnight total finishing with 555 runs in 173.4 overs. Saminda Fernando top scored with a brilliant century while Navod Paranavithana, Dunith Wellalage, Geeth Kumara, Santhush Gunathilake and Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed with useful half centuries.

The Colombo left arm spinner was impressive with the ball as he snared 6 scalps for 169 runs, while off spinner Sammu Ashan and Lahiru Madushanka picked up 2 wickets each.

In reply, Colombo got off to a terrible start, losing 2 quick wickets for just 3 runs before the close of play on day one.
