The four-day competition of the inaugural National Super League kicked off today (24th February) with two games being played at Galle and Hambantota international cricket stadiums.

Kandy vs Galle
Kandy skipper Kamindu Mendis won the toss and chose to bat first at Galle international cricket stadium. Kandy batters managed to post a mammoth total on the board on the first day itself thanks to half-centuries made by Lahiru Udara, Lasith Croospulle, Kamindu Mendis and Kasun Vidura.
Croospulle who top-scored with 93 runs off 107 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes built a match-defining partnership of 169 runs for the opening wicket with Udara. The off-spinner Chanaka Ruwansiri picked up 2 wickets for 75 runs for the Galle team.

Jaffna vs Colombo
Having won the toss, Jaffna skipper Sadeera Samarawickrama opted to bat first at Hambantota. The decision to bat turned out to be a good one as Jaffna ended the day on a commanding position posting 311/4.
The number three batter Saminda Fernando had a great outing with the bat on the first day of the tournament itself as he stoked a brilliant century for Jaffna.
The opener Navod Paranavithana (77) and skipper Sadeera Samarawickrama (58) also chipped in with half-centuries. The seamer Lahiru Madushanka and left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya snared 2 wickets each for the Colombo team.
