Sri Lanka Cricket donates cricket equipment to Schools in Gampaha and Kalutara

Sri Lanka Cricket today (2nd February) distributed cricket equipment to 79 schools in the Kalutara and Gampaha district under its newly launched program to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools across the country in a bid to enhance school cricket.

During the ceremony held at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, 79 schools playing in the ongoing U15 tournament conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket were donated with cricket equipment.

Accordingly, 36 schools from the Kalutara district and 43 schools from the Gampaha district were given the donation.

Among the equipment given consist of 3 bats, 2 helmets, 03 pairs of batting pads and gloves, a wicket-keeping pad and a glove, and a Team Cricket Bag for each school.

Honorable Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports – Mr. Anuradha Wijekoon Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports – Mr. Amal Edirisooriya, Director General of Sports – Mr. Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket – Mr. Thilak Waththuhewa, President, Schools Cricket Association – Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO, Sri Lanka Cricket – Mr. Sujeewa Godaliyedda, Executive Committee Member, Sri Lanka Cricket and Mr. Kamal Dharmasiri, Head of National Development Center of Sri Lanka Cricket were present during the occasion.

The inaugural distribution of the donation commenced last week, where 66 Schools in the Colombo District were given cricket equipment.

The program will continue across the country, covering schools playing in the U13 and U15 School Cricket Tournament.

Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment, Sri Lanka Cricket has also developed cricketing infrastructure across schools in the country.
