Dilruwan Perera announces retirement from International Cricket

Sri Lanka’s senior off-spinner, Dilruwan Perera, has informed Sri Lanka Cricket about his intention to retire from international cricket with immediate effect.

The 39-year-old has communicated his decision via Email to the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr Ashley de Silva, ThePapare.com learns.

Perera has played 43 Tests, 13 ODIs, and 3 T20Is for Sri Lanka. Being a premier Test bowler for Sri Lanka, Perera bagged 161 wickets in Test match cricket.

“I will continue to play domestic cricket for a while longer but for now I think the time is right to call it curtains on my international cricket journey.” – wrote Dilruwan in his retirement note.

Apart from the service he has rendered to the nation in the international arena, Dilruwan has been of immense value in the domestic cricket scene. His 808 First-class wickets in over 200 games will be a testament to it.

“I’ve had the privilege and honour of playing with some of the best in the game, I leave with fond memories and a heart full of joy,” mentioned Dilruwan.

Dilruwan is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Tests for Sri Lanka sharing the list with some of the greatest to have played for the nation.
