The Pakistan ‘A’ team and Bangladesh U19 team are set to tour Sri Lanka in October 2021.

The Pakistan ‘A’ team will play two four-day matches and three one-day games in Dambulla while the Bangladesh U19s are scheduled to play five Youth ODIs at the R. Premadasa Stadium, according to Sri Lanka Cricket.

This is the first tour since the pandemic hit in 2020, that Sri Lanka will host an ‘A’ team or an U19 team. Sri Lanka ‘A’ last played against Bangladesh ‘A’ in two unofficial Tests and three one-dayers in Hambantota in October 2019. The last time an U19 team touched down on Lankan soil was in May 2019 when the Pakistan juniors played 5 Youth ODIs in the country.

The Youth ODIs will be of great value for the Sri Lankans who are preparing for big tournaments like the Asia Cup in December and the U19 World Cup in January next year.

At the beginning of the month, SLC appointed former Sri Lanka cricketer Avishka Gunawardene as the Head Coach of the Under-19 national team and former SSC cricketer Mahinda Halangoda as the Manager.

The head coach position of the Sri Lankan ‘A’ team is still vacant while Ruwin Peiris, Dharshana Gamage and Sajeewa Weerakoon are appointed as the batting coach, fast bowling coach and spin bowling coach respectively.
