Tharanga strokes ton; NCC, Ragama through to finals

Nondescripts Cricket Club and Ragama Cricket Club recorded wins in the vitally important semi-finals of the SLC Major Club Limited Overs Tournament 2021 today (09), defeating Badureliya Sports Club and Sri Lanka Army Sports Club respectively.

NCC vs Badureliya SC

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the veteran Upul Tharanga smashing a stunning ton for NCC in a crucial game. His stylish 136 runs gave NCC a cozy 292 runs on board.

The Badureliya boys put up a spirited chase and were led by the dynamic Thilakaratne Sampath, who missed out on a hundred by a whisker. He scored 98 runs for Badureliya, while the next best score from that team was the fifty by the number eight batsman Gamindu Kanishka.

The Lahiru Kumara storm hit Badureliya really hard, and stalled them down to 274 runs. Kumara’s fierce pace got him 4 scalps for 42 runs, and also made sure his team went safely through to the finals.

Ragama CC vs SL Army SC

A young and energetic Ragama CC dismantled the experienced Sri Lanka Army outfit quite cheaply. The soldiers managed only 178 runs as the Ragama bowlers proved to be too good for them.

Himasha Liyanage and Thisara Perera scored 45 runs each to lead the batting card for Army, while the wily right-arm pace of Ishan Jayaratne accounted for a fifer for Ragama CC.

Tall and lanky left-arm speedster Binura Fernando also picked up 3 wickets to his merits.

Young Saminda Fernando scored a brilliant 99 runs at the top of the order to put his team in a secure position in the game. The Ragama top order finished the game quite comfortably with over 10 overs to spare.
