Three traditional encounters of the Schools U19 Cricket tournament commenced today at Colombo and Kandy.

Royal College dominated the first day’s play in their traditional encounter against Ananada College as they posted a mammoth score of 359 for 6 at stumps on day one. The left-hander Kavindu Pathirathna was the star perfomer with the bat for the visitors as he made an unbeaten 87 runs.
Left-arm spinner Thenuka Perera’s brilliant bowling spell helped Wesley College restrict the strong batting lineup of Trinity College to 222 runs on day one of their traditional encounter which commenced today at Kandy. In reply, the visitors were also in a spot of bother losing 3 quick wickets for just 55 runs.
The traditional encounter between Zahira College and St. Benedict’s College also commenced today at Kotahena. Zahira College managed post 279 runs for 8 wickets at stumps on day one. Zaidh Naleem (55) top-scored for the visitors while Akindu Karunarathna shone with the ball taking 4 scalps for 49 runs for the hosts.
