Asela Gunarathne and Dhananjaya Lakshan star as Army and Colts record victories

SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2020/21

360

Six more matches of SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2020/21 was worked off today at different venues in Colombo and Katunayake. The all-round brilliance of Asela Gunarathne and young rising all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan’s masterclass with the bat were the highlights of the day.

Colombo Cricket Club registered a 4-wicket win over Kandy Customs SC in a low scoring affair worked off today at SSC Grounds. The veteran left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara (4/09) and right arm seamer Lahiru Madushanka (3/25) managed to rip through the batting lineup of Kandy Customs restricting them to just 91 runs in 18.4 overs.

Though chasing 92 runs seem to be easy on paper, this wasn’t the case as CCC lost 6 wickets, but Lasith Abeyratne held his nerve to get them over the line at the end. Abeyratne played like he was batting on a different wicket top-scoring with 53 runs.

Colts CC defeated Bloomfield C&AC by 20 runs thanks to the standout performances of Sri Lanka’s rising all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan (63) and Saranga Rajaguru (3/22). The left-handed batsman Thikshila de Silva (54) and wrist spinner Pulina Tharanga (3/23) starred in Chilaw Marians’ win over Police SC.

Massive win for NCC; Nuwanindu and Minod score big

National capped Asela Gunaratne displayed an excellent all-round show as Army CC dominated their encounter against Sebastianites clinching a comprehensive 7-wicket win. Gunaratne scored a  half-ton (58*) with the bat and picked up 2 scalps for 22 runs.

The encounters between Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club and Burgher Recreation Club, and Saracens Sports Club and Navy Sports Club ended without a result as both games were interrupted by rain.
