The semi-finals of the Major Club Youth Tournament 2020/21 which were scheduled to be played tomorrow, 27th of October, 2020 have been postponed for the second time due to the recent development in the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the island.
“We postponed it today (Sunday) because of the current situation,” SLC Tournament Committee Chairman Bandula Dissanayake said.
The matches were scheduled to be played at P. Sara Oval stadium and NCC grounds following the initial postponement. With police curfew in place for several areas in the country, including the surroundings of the P. Sara Stadium, the tournament officials had no other option but to postpone the tournament again.

“Dematagoda is under police curfew and we are playing a match at the P. Sara Oval. It’s almost next to the venue. There are a lot of places under police curfew, where the parents are not willing to send their children to play the matches as they have a lot of concerns,” Mr Dissanayake added.
The final of the tournament was scheduled to be played on the 29th of October which will now be pushed back.
The commencement of the Major Club T20 tournament has also been postponed due to the current situation.
“We will have to wait until next week to see whether there are any developments and then take it from there,” Mr Dissanayake concluded.
