The Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka is in hot water after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) rejected the proposed COVID-19 related restrictions which will be imposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) during the tour.

The 3-Test match series which is also part of the ICC Test Championship is scheduled to commence on October 24th and two Test matches will be played in Kandy while the last Test of the series is expected to be played in Colombo.

However, according to the bio-safety plan sent by SLC, Bangladesh players will have to be quarantined for 2 weeks in the hotel, before starting practices. SLC has informed BCB that they will not be able to conduct any practice sessions or even come out of their rooms during that time.

SLC will also not provide any local players or teams to the Bangladesh team for practice sessions and practice matches. The BCB has therefore decided to bring a ‘High-Performance’ team with them at their own cost. However, SLC has informed BCB that they cannot accommodate more than 30 cricketers on tour.

Considering all these restrictions, BCB has shown their reluctance to tour Sri Lanka if the Bio-safety plan is not changed.

After BCB’s response, SLC has now proposed a solution where the quarantine period would be split between the two countries, a week each in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in a desperate attempt to salvage the tour. However, Sri Lanka’s health authorities and BCB have not agreed to such a plan yet.

If this series is postponed, there is a possibility of it overlapping with the scheduled dates of inaugural Lanka Premier League which is planned to start from 14th November.
