Sri Lankan to coach Premier women’s team in New Zealand

Former Sri Lankan first-class cricketer Hashan Goonetilleke has been appointed as the head of Auckland based Takapuna District Cricket Club (TDCC) and will coach the Premier Women’s team for the next two seasons. 

Goonetilleke is a former St. Joseph’s College 1st XI captain who played domestic cricket for NCC, BRC, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and Sebastianites CC in Sri Lanka and also represented Johnsonville CC and Hibiscus Coast CC in New Zealand. The 34-year old right-handed batsman has played first-class cricket for about 8 years before taking up coaching. He is a New Zealand Cricket Level 2 certified coach and has been working with Johnsonville CC, Newlands College 1 st XI, Wellington College 1 st XI, and assisting with the Wellington provincial women’s team before this commitment.

Takapuna District Cricket Club is one of the biggest and top-performing cricket Clubs in New Zealand with a playing membership of 1,050 which includes 74 cricket teams from juniors, seniors to masters, and an overall membership of over 1,500.
