The Quint Ondaatje Foundation together with the Professional Sport Journalist Association of Sri Lanka (PSJASL) donated Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) to the frontline Media Personnel, Colombo Districts News Correspondents and Photographers.
Since the outbreak of COVID 19, most journalists have been covering the news without proper equipment and knowledge about the risk they are taking.
Last week over 100 journalists tested positive for Covid19 in India. After requests made by the PSJASL, Quint Ondaatje Foundation Director/Goodwill Ambassador and well known Rhythmic gymnast Anna-Marie Ondaatje donated 30 PPE kits to the journalists and Medical officials.
With the contribution of the members of the PSJASL, donations were extended to the Government free ambulance services medical staff as well.
The donation was made to the “Suwasariya Ambulance Services”, in the form of PPE kits while 1000 masks, 20L sanitizers and 500 hand wash soap bars went to isolated Police division area medical staff.
“We are all equal and here for a purpose” Rhythmic gymnast Anna-Marie Ondaatje stated
“I am ambitious in my focus on human rights, creating change in areas of health and safety, education, hunger, shelter, gender equality, abuse, women, disaster response, refugees, sports development, arts, culture and heritage, rural transformation and urban renewal.” She said.
Anna-Marie Ondaatje is only 19, but her athletic legacy is already secure: as the first Rhythmic gymnast to represent Sri Lanka on the international stage, Ondaatje is already both pioneer and ambassador for her sport.
