St. John’s College registered a comprehensive innings victory over Jaffna Central College in the 114th Battle of the North, which ended today at Jaffna Central College Grounds. Anton Saraan of St. John’s College was the star performer of the day as he ran through the hosts’ batting lineup, taking a 5-wicket haul.
St. John’s College in command after two days of play
The Jaffna Central College batsmen Sansajan Matheeswaran (15*) and Inthujan Balarupan (13*), who remained unbeaten at the crease overnight, resumed day three on 51 runs for 3 wickets expecting to go past the deficit and set a reasonable target for the visitors.
They were well on the path to achieve this objective as they managed to steady the innings well for a while. However, after adding 57 more runs to the scoreboard, Balarupan lost his patience and threw away his wicket for 56 runs.

His knock came off 76 balls, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 73.68. Straight after his dismissal, the visitors managed to dismiss the set batsman Matheeswaran for 27 runs, which opened the doors for them to finish things off quickly.

As expected after those two dismissals, the hosts’ innings collapsed and they were eventually bowled out for just 124 runs in 45.4 overs, handing a comprehensive innings victory for the visitors. Anton Saraan, who gave St. John’s College the late impetus with the bat, showed his tricks with the ball by picking up 5 wickets for 32 runs in his 12-over bowling spell.
