Amidst the March Madness happening in full flow across several parts of the country, a couple of traditional games of the 2019/20 schools cricket season too were worked off today.
Pavan amasses two unbeaten biggies in the same game
Thurstan College who were in complete control of their traditional affair against Dharmapala College completed an outright win by an innings and 60 runs. Starting with a 6-wicket haul by left-arm seamer Nipun Kanchana, all-rounder Yohan Liyanage took over to steer Thurstan towards with victory with a 40-run knock with the bat and 4 wickets in the 2nd innings. The 7-wicket haul by off-spinner Dinith Nelumdeniya was the only takeaway for the visitors.
St. Benedict’s College hosted St. Anthony’s College Kandy in another traditional encounter as the visitors ended day 1 on a high. Thanks to a brilliant century by Prabath Sachin and 81 by Lasitha Werallagama, the Antonians posted 242 in their first innings. The hosts were on 43/1 at stumps.
