Former Sri Lankan spinner Sachithra Senanayake has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.
The 34-year old who represented Sri Lanka in all 3 formats of the game, informed his decision to Sri Lanka Cricket in a statement – “I have informed Sri Lanka Cricket of my decision to retire from all forms of International cricket with immediate effect. I wish to thank each and every one of you who stood by me and supported me over the years. Until we meet again, this is farewell for now.”
Senanayake, who debuted for Sri Lanka in January 2012, was unfortunately banned from bowling in international cricket due to his action being found illegal by the ICC
in July 2014. The series during which he was reported also made highlights for his controversial mankading of Jos Buttler in a crucial ODI, which Sri Lanka won eventually. However, he was able to make a comeback in national colours even before the year 2014 ended with a remodeled action.
