CBL to sponsor MCA “D” division 40 over League

The CBL-Munchee Trophy, MCA D Division 40 Over League Tournament 2020 got off to a start last weekend. The official sponsorship presentation was held last Friday, 06th December at the MCA Fine Diner “The Pitch”.

Present at the above occasion were Mr. Janmesh Paul Antony – General Manager Marketing – CBL. Mr. Romesh Jayathilake – Marketing Manager – CBL & Mr. Athula Wellagiriya Trade Marketing Manager –CBL, the MCA Officials were Mr. Rohana Dissanayake (President ), Mr. Nalin Wickramasinghe (Snr. Pioneer food manufacturer, Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL Group), who won accolades at Best Corporate Citizen Awards 2018 has come in as the new sponsor for the MCA “D” division 40 over League Tournament 2020.

The tournament to be conducted with 14 teams, pooled into 02 groups, got under way last weekend, 07th & 08th December 2019.

The teams vying for CBL Munchee Biscuits Trophy are:

Group A – Colombo Dockyard, Nawaloka Hospitals, MAS Bodyline, Maliban Biscuits, Airport & Aviation Services, Hirdaramani Group & Mode Engineering (debut)

Group B – Hemas Group, David Pieris Motor Co., Ansell Lanka, NDB Bank, Delmage Group, Central Finance & Melwire Rolling. 

Last Season, DFCC Bank emerged as the winner, beating Central Finance by 03 wickets, in the Final played on 23rd February 2019 at the MCA Grounds. The tournament will be conducted in 02 stages consisting a total of 49 matches including the Final.

The 1st Stage – The “league”, consisting 42 matches will be played from 07th December 2019 up to 26th January 2020.

The 2nd stage – the “Knock-out” consisting 07 matches will be conducted on 01st, 02nd February (quarter finals), 09th February (Semi Finals) and 15th February (Final).

The 49 matches are spread around, DS Senanayake, Army Panagoda, Army Mattegoda, St. Benedict’s College Kotahena, St. Joseph’s College, Darley Road, Central College, Veyangoda, Wesley College Campbell Park, NSCA Ratmalana & MCA Grounds.

All matches will be officiated by MCA appointed Match Referees, On-field Umpires are assigned by the Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (APCU) & the score board Scorers assigned by Sri Lanka Cricket Scorers. 

Special Awards are on offer for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Man of the Final & Man of the Series. Matches up to the Final will be played with the Royal Malik / The World of Cricket – Red Ball with the MCA Logo.
