The Group C encounter between Gurukula College, Kelaniya and St. Servatius College, Matara in the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 commenced today at Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara. 

Dilmin Rathnayake shines as Thomians claim first innings honors

The St. Servatius College skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to take first lease of the wicket. The decision to bowl first turned out to be a good one as they restricted Gurukula College to 160 runs in 71.1 overs. The right-handed batsman Kemira Nayanatharu was the chief contributor with the bat as he made a classy half-ton for the lads from Kelaniya.

The right-handed batsmen Likshan Sasanga (28), Sithija Chamod (27) and Nuwantha Madushan (25) also chipped in with useful contributions with the bat. The left arm spinner Naveen Shahith bowled in tandem with Dananjaya Amarasinghe and took 3 scalps each for St. Servatius College. In addition, the off spinner Chirath Neththaru shone with the ball picking up 2 wickets for 12 runs. 

De Mazenod register 1st innings win against Isipathana

The St. Servatius College batsmen could not reply with the bat today as rain brought the first day’s play to a premature end in Matara. The match will continue tomorrow for day two.
