The 9th World Para Athletics Championship will kick off today (7) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with nine Sri Lanka national athletes carrying the Lion flag. A fit captain has been selected to lead the male dominant team, hoping to see a few medals coming our way.

The meet will go on till the 15th of November with the main venue for this year being the ‘Dubai Club for People with Determination’. The World Para Athletics Subcommittee has organized a mammoth tourney with 114 nations participating, including over 1500 participants.
Sri Lanka’s leading Javelin star Dinesh Herath has been fittingly chosen as captain of the team with 8 other members under him. Herath was the lone medalist at the previous edition, winning a Silver medal in the Javelin Throw.
The team representing Sri Lanka this year will be Dinesh Herath ( C ) for the Javelin Throw, Amila Prasan Warnakulasooriya for Men’s 100m and High Jump, Kumudu Priyanka for Women’s Long Jump, Upul Chuladasa for the Men’s 100m, Indika Gamage for the 100m, Palitha Halgahawela for the Men’s Shot putt, Chaminda Sampath Hettiarachchi for the Men’s Javelin Throw, Buddika Indrapala for the Men’s Long and High Jump and Dulan Kodithuwakku for the Men’s Javelin Throw.
