Two games of the Singer U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament was played today, 4th November, in Kandy and Kandana.
De Mazenod College, Kandana vs St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa
Hosts, De Mazenod College, won the toss and elected to bat first in this traditional encounter. They had the kind of outing the team would fancy with young Ruveen Fonseka putting the bowlers from Wennappuwa in his line of fire. The right-hander scored his first century of the season with his skipper registering 51 runs to his name.
The batsmen completely outplayed the visiting bowling line-up that they had to dig in hard to earn every wicket. Shon Shenil was the only man who was relatively successful with the ball as he picked up 2 scalps for 31 runs.
Mazenodians were riding high with the scoreboard reading 288 for 7 by sunset on day-one.

The game was underway at the Lake View grounds in Kandy where the toss went in favour of the hosts, who decided to have a bat first. Isuru Dayananda lead the batting for the Kandy school with 51 runs to his name while it was the leading wicket-taker for Dharmashoka College, Lohan de Soyza who yet again lead the bowling for the Southern school. The left-arm spinner bagged 3 wickets for 51 runs.
The day ended with the host team at 199 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 76 overs as the light was not sufficient for the game.
