The Sri Lanka U16 Netball team cruised past neighboring India in their opening game of the inaugural South Asian U16 Netball Championship, setting the tone with a 40-24 win.

The Lankans looked to dominate right from the start of the game, outscoring the opposition 2:1 in the first quarter to build a solid 10 – 7 lead going into the break. India fought back in the 2nd quarter but yet again Sri Lanka were able to win the quarter, to take a substantial 6 goal lead into halftime with the scores reading 18-12.

The third quarter is where the Lankans really pulled away from India, managing 14 goals to the opposition’s 5 and a few changes were brought in during the 4th quarter as Sri Lanka sealed their 1st win of the tournament 40-24.

The bulk of the scoring was done by Hiruni Heshani who started at Goal shooter and then moved to Goal attack in the 2nd half; she produced 25 goals while skipper Nethmi Wijenayake (8) and Senuthi Dilakna (7) contributed with 15.
