De Mazenod College, Kandana faced Mahanama College, Colombo in a pre-quarter final of the Singer U17 division 1 cricket tournament today, 30th August, 2019 at De Mazenod College grounds.
It was a rain-shortened game which the umpires decided would be a 40-overs per side match. The home captain won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a decent effort from the boys from Kandana as they made 183 runs.
Lester Jayaweera top-scored with 54 runs while Pavan Rathnayake and Achintha Supun claimed 2 wickets each.
Even though the chase seemed a steep one for Mahanama, given that it was a home game for De Mazenod, they were given hope by the fact that there is always plenty of runs in that hill-top De Mazenod grounds.

Making maximum use of those lightning quick out-fields Vinuka Rubasinghe struck a match-winning 62 runs as Mahanama inched their way to victory.
Pramod Rajamunindra was the pick of the bowlers for De Mazenod with 2 wickets for 30 runs.
The game dragged into the twilight as they tried to bowl out the entire quota of overs. But even at 6.13 pm, there were 2 overs left to be bowled. Umpires decided to take off the bails and look at the Parabola chart for a result and the game ended in favour of Mahanama as they were just 3 runs above the par-score.
