Nissanka’s ton earns victory for Sri Lanka Emerging

Sri Lanka Emerging team recorded the fourth win in their tour to South Africa today, 10th July 2019.

The unchanged Sri Lanka Emerging XI which won the previous game against their South African counterpart, were provided with a perfect start by the two opening pacers, Asitha Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne, as they shared 2 wickets in the first 10 overs for 32 runs.

Following the fall of two more wickets courtesy all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka and spinner Amila Aponso, USSA’s best batsman, Delano Potgieter rebuilt the innings with a valuable knock of 52. The partnership between him and wicket-keeper Rubin Herman added 75 runs for the 5th wicket to pull them out from 49/4 in the 18th over to a modest position by the 40th over.

Breaking the partnership and putting the opposition to further trouble, Madushanka picked up 3 more wickets in the final 10 overs to restrict USSA for 180 for the loss of 7 wickets by the end of the allotted 50 overs.

The run-chase for the tourists never looked difficult as their in-form opener, Pathum Nissanka continued from where he left off in the previous game, in which he scored a century, taking Sri Lanka towards victory in the 38th over.

Nissanka remained unbeaten on 84 with captain Asalanka on 29. Left-handers Sandun Weerakkody and Kamindu Mendis contributed with 26 and 40. Madushanka was adjudged man of the match for his 4 wickets.

The Sri Lanka Emerging team will now play two 4-Day Unofficial Tests against the South Africa Emerging team starting on the 18th of this month.
