Sri Lanka Navy to meet RCUAC and OTSC ‘A’ in Water Polo Championship finals

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in both men’s and women’s finals as Royal College Union Aquatic Club (RCUAC) from men’s and Old Thomian Swimming Club (OTSC) from women’s look forward to spoil SLN’s party.

 

Women’s

The days proceeding’s kicked off when SL Navy took on Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in another women’s segment game and Sri Lanka Navy had to win this game in order to qualify for Monday’s final and if they lose then the Navy women’s team had to depend on other games outcomes as the 2nd spot of the points table will be decided by goal difference. The Navy Women’s decided not to make matters too complicated and won the game 10-07. It was a closely contested battle and at few occasion SLAF was leading by 1 or 2 goals. But SLN how were on breathtaking situation on 2 earlier games this tournament held their nerves to record a win and qualify for finals. With this victory SLN was placed 2nd in the table and qualified to meet unbeaten OTSC ‘A’ in Monday’s final.

The 2nd day of the game was between OTSC ‘B’ and OTSC ‘C’. The OTSC ‘B’ team had no problem winning this game as they easily beat their opponents with a score of 11-00. This took OTSC ‘B’ to the 3rd position in the points table and they will be playing SLAF on Monday’s bronze medal game. 

Men’s Semi Finals

The 1st semi final of the championship was between RCUAC ‘A’ & SLN ‘C’. Before the game RCUAC were favorites to win this game but also a close game was expected from both teams. But RCUAC ran riots across SLN ‘C’ defense and managed to record an excellent 19-3 victory over their opponents. This will surely give RCUAC much needed confidence before going in to Monday’s big final and they clearly made their intentions clear that RCUAC will battle it all out on Monday and it is good to see that RCUAC has peaked just before their big games.

The 2nd Semi Final of the day was between tournament favorites SL Navy ‘A’ and SLAF ‘A’. The game took an interesting face both defense teams battled it out for a position in the final and most of all the pride of their respective camps.  SL Navy team did not find it easy to overcome the Air Force challenge as the Airmen played their hearts out in the Semi Final. It was another close encounter until the 3rd quarter and goals were scored one after another by both teams. Airmen did not give any breathing space for Navy as they kept counter attacking each time navy took the lead but at the end with all the experience SL Navy beat SLAF 11-9 and booked their Final spot.  

The final day of the tournament will be held Monday, November 4th 2013 at 3.00pm onwards. Be there to witness how teams battle it out at the all important finals!
