Sri Lanka thumped South Korea 95 – 07 in their first match of the 11th Asian Youth Netball Championship 2019 played at the Kashima Sports Center, Japan.
Sri Lanka who finished a disappointing 4th in 2017 after becoming champions in 2015 are on the road to reclaiming their lost pride.

Sri Lanka got off to a lightening quick start scoring 37 goals from 40 attempts in the 1st quarter; All the points going to Mellony Wijesinghe. South Korea only managed 1 goal from Cho S.Y of her 5 attempts.
South Korea upped their defense but could only slow down the rate of scoring in the 2nd quarter. Wijesinghe had 17 from 18 while Dewna Randini scored 6 from 6. Scoring 23-1 in the 2nd quarter Sri Lanka went into half time leading 60 – 2.
Wijesinghe was given a break for the final two quarters as Imasha Perera joined Dewna in the attack. The 3rd quarter saw Sri Lanka scoring 18 from 22 attempts. Dewna had 11 from 14 and Imasha 7 from 8. Korea could only manage a mere 2 points.
In the final quarter Dewna shot a perfect 10 from 10 and Imasha added 7 goals from 9 attempts as the girls outscored Korea 17-3. Final scores of the match read, 95 – 07 in favour of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will face Nepal tomorrow (30th June) at 11.30am (SL Time).
