The Sri Lanka Hockey Federation (SLHF) has organized the International Olympic Day Hockey Walk on the 22nd June to mark the Olympic Day on the 23rd June 2019. This follows a request from the International Hockey Federation and the Asian Hockey Federation.

The goal of this event is to boost participation in hockey regardless of age, gender and athletic ability. The march will commence in front of the BMICH and proceed via Independence square to the Colombo Astro Turf where a few exhibition hockey events are scheduled to take place.
A large turnout is expected on Saturday with teams from leading schools in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Negombo and Wennappuwa likely to join the walk.
Royal College, Ananda College, Nalanda College, Hindu College, St. Paul’s Milagiriya, St. Aloysius Galle, Richmond College Galle, Dharmaraja College Kandy, Southlands College, Visakha Vidyalaya, Maris Stella College Negombo and Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa are among the expected lot of schools.

With over 50 countries around the world celebrating International Olympic Day, the SLHF hopes that the walk will in turn boost interest in the sport among the younger generation.
The SLHF fervently hopes that the event will be successful and will pave the way for greater interest in the sport among the Sri Lankans and invites all hockey enthusiasts, fans and members of the public to participate in the walk this coming Saturday (22nd June)
