Devapathiraja hands humiliating defeat to Rahula

Pawan Sandesh of Devapathiraja College Rathgama slammed 152 runs not out, in the first week of Singer Schools Under 17 Division 01 group H match against Rahula College Matara, at the Rathgama public ground today (13th June).

Visiting captain of Rahula won the toss and invited the hosts to take the crease first. Having the home ground advantage, the Deva boys scored a mammoth total to their name at the end of 50 overs by putting up 305 runs for the loss of 05 wickets. Pawan Sandesh was exceptional with the bat hammering boundaries all over the park till the end of the inning by scoring 152 runs not out. Jeewaka Sachin just felt short of his half century scoring only 48 runs while Nithin Chamuda scored 28 runs. Owin Bopage clinch 2 wickets for 57 runs with the ball.

Chasing down the huge target the boys from Matara rendered helpless against Anushka Shehan as he demolished the visiting team’s batting line up by grabbing 5 wickets for just 18 runs. Jeewaka Sachin showed his all-round skills by taking 2 wickets for just 03 runs and bundled Rahula College Matara for 51 runs only in 19.2 overs.

Devapathiraja College won by 254 runs.

Two leading schools from Galle district played their first encounter of Singer Schools under 17 Division 01 group H match, with Vidyaloka College, Galle taking on Richmond College, Galle.

Richmond skipper won the toss and invited Vidyaloka to bat first in a 50 over match and bowled them out for 165 runs in 47.1 overs. Dilan Rashinda was the highest scorer for Vidyaloka by scoring 52 runs while Rishan Chamika scored 22 runs. Kalpa Nethsara and Kavindu Nirmana took 2 for 21 and 2 for 29 individually, while Hasindu Kavishka and Pulindu Kiriella grabbed 2 for 30 and 20 for 35 respectively.

Richmond College took it easy while chasing the target of 166 runs but Vidyaloka came up strong and bowled them out for 131 runs completing 43.5 overs. Achitha Isiwara scored 28 runs and Chamath Dilsara scored 23 runs. Rishan Chamika was the pick of the bowlers by clicking 3 wickets for 27 runs while Hansaka Jayanath & Dileesha Methsara shared 4 wickets between them by taking 2 for 29 and 2 for 43 accordingly.

Vidyaloka College, Galle won the match by 34 runs.

Two giants from hill capital put up an exciting match in their season opener in the Singer Schools under 17 Division 01 group L match played at Asgiriya grounds.

Skipper from Katugastotha won the toss and invited Trinity to bat first as they put a decent first inning score on the board by scoring 287 runs for the loss of 7 wickets completing 50 overs. Ranuga Somarathne was outstanding with the bat for his unbeaten 102 runs for Trinity. Pawan Pathirage and Abishek Anandakumar supported the batting line by putting up 44 runs and 40 runs respectively. Divesh Ramaiya took 2 wickets for 62 runs.

Chasing down the target, the Antho boys came close passing 200 runs but fell 63 runs short of the target at the end of 50 overs when they managed to score only 224 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Gihan Ebart scored a fighting 55 runs not out with Nimanaka Jayathilaka who scored 26 runs not out while Chamindu Wickramasinghe chipped in with 36. Theeraka Ranathunga grabbed 2 wickets for 20 runs and Umair Raisan took 2 for 27 runs.

Trinity College, Kandy won the match by 63 runs.
