After an enthralling 1st round of the Singer Schools Rugby League action, the curtain unfolds for decision time with the cup and plate championships set to kick off this weekend.

Eight teams will go head to head for 4 promotion spots in the top division next season in the Plate championship that will span for 4 weeks. The bottom 4 from Division A will have a final lifeline in the plate as they fight for their survival against the up and coming schools from the ‘B’ Division.

Disappointing turn of events for Kingswood this season as they will have to fight for their spot in the top tier

Maliyadeva, Kingswood, St. Anthony’s and Zahira will be the teams who will be shifting down from the A Division while, D. S. Senanayake, Vidyartha, Sri Sumangala College Kandy & Dharmaraja College will be the representation from the ‘B’ Division.

Incidentally each of the teams would have played each other in the first round in their respective groups and will be bringing down the match points from that specific encounter to the Plate Championship.

Ex: Dharmaraja defeated Vidyartha 20-22 in the 1st round and recorded 5 match points which they will take forward to the club

Each team will play the 4 teams from their opposite group in a lapse of four weeks.

Playing structure

At the end of four weeks of action, the top four teams in the league table will get the promotion rights for the ‘A’ division.

Kingswood College were last in the Plate in 2017, the year that they got themselves back to the top division, while Zahira College are in the Plate for the first time since their promotion in 2017.

Back in the Plate division; St. Anthony’s

The tournament has seen the likes of St. Anthony’s year on year and last year’s ‘A’ division exits Dharmaraja and D. S. Senanayake will be eagerly waiting to get back to the main game.
