After Weerakkody’s dismissal, Thirimanne and De Silva added 151 runs for the second wicket to lay a perfect platform for Galle. Right-handed De Silva scored 89 off just 76 balls with 11 fours, while Thirimanne made 82 in 96 deliveries with 6 fours and 1 six.

Despite losing a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Milinda Siriwardena and Minod Bhanuka finished off the Galle innings with a flourish. In reply, the Dambulla top order faltered again as national hopefuls, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka and Oshada Fernando failed to impress as they were restricted to 87 for 4 before the 20-over mark.
