Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Atapattu won the toss and once again decided to bat first at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. Sri Lanka got off to as good a start as they could have imagined as Atapattu and Imalka Mendis sped to 45 for no loss in just 7 overs. Unfortunately, that was as good as it was going to get for the hosts.

England all-rounder Natalie Sciver got the big breakthrough for the visitors when she dismissed Atapattu for 24, a knock which included 4 boundaries. From that point on, it was all about the English spinners as they dried up the runs and continued to pick up wickets. Only three other batsmen, apart from Atapattu got to double figures as the Sri Lankan innings ended in all too familiar fashion on 108/6.

Sri Lanka handed thrashing in 1st T20I

Katherine Brunt, returning to the team in place of the rested Anya Schrubsole, picked up 2 wickets while Sciver, Laura Marsh, Hether Knight and Sophia Dunkley picked up a wicket apiece.

England’s top order has been a real force during this tour and they carried that form into today’s game as well. Amy Jones and Dannie Wyatt went at 10 runs an over at the top of the order before both of them were dismissed by Shashikala Siriwardene for 36 and 37 respectively. Tammy Beaumont and Sciver then finished things off for England, as the visitors claimed the win with 6.1 overs to spare.
