A quarter final and two pre-quarter finals of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Limited Over Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island. Prince of Wales College secured a semi final berth while St. Peter’s College and Richmond College managed to reserve spots in quarter finals.

Mahanama College, Colombo vs Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa
Prince of Wales College defeated Mahanama College in their quarter final encounter which was worked off today at Dombagoda. After been put into bat first, the Cambrians posted a below par score of 152 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. At one stage, they were struggling to even post 100 runs on the board as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, thanks to Pasindu Pathum’s unbeaten 73 runs, the Cambrians finally managed to post a respectable score.
Lahiru Vithana was instrumental in causing the batting collapse as he took 5 wickets for 18 runs for Mahanama College. However, right arm seamer Naduka Fernando helped the Cambrians to defend 153 picking up 5 wickets for 36 runs and secured a place in the semi finals.

After winning the toss, the St. Peter’s College skipper chose to bowl first and restricted Mahinda College to 147 runs in 43.2 overs. Wanuja Sahan and Tariq Saboor picked up 3 wickets each for the Peterites. The visitors were in a spot of bother in their run chase but finally managed to chase down the target in 35.2 overs with 4 wickets in hand.

Shannon Fernando top scored with a half ton while Santhush Gunathilaka (26) and Shivan Perera (22) chipped in with useful contributions with the bat for the visitors. Sri Lanka U19 cap left arm spinner Navod Paranavithana picked up 2 wickets for 33 runs for the hosts.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa vs Richmond College, Galle
Richmond College managed to qualify for the quarter finals of the Singer Schools Under 19 Division 1 Limited Over Tournament as they defeated St. Sebastian’s College today at Moratuwa. The St. Sebastian’s College skipper Nuwanindu Fernando won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first in their own backyard. His bowers did a very good job with the ball as they managed to restrict the strong batting lineup of Richmond College for 159 runs.

Right handed batsman Thaveesha Abishek, the big match hero of Richmond College, continued his good form with the bat scoring 44 runs. Sebastianite off spinner Nadeera Fernando starred with the ball picking up 4 wickets for just 8 runs.
The target was an easy one on paper, but the lads from Moratuwa did struggle with the bat and were bundled out for 141 runs in 37.4 overs. Left arm spinner Dilum Sudeera was the star with the ball for the Richmondites as he took 5 scalps for 16 runs.
