The annual cricket encounter played by two prestigious colleges from the Colombo District, the Battle of the Golds between D. S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College will see its 13th edition this year at P Sara Oval grounds, Colombo on the 29th and 30th March while the One Day Encounter will take place on 6th April 2019.
The press conference for this important event was held on Tuesday, 12th of March headed by the Principles, Chanaka Bamunuarachchi of D. S. Senanayake College and L. M. D. Dharmasena of Mahanama College along with the participation of Old boys, School Cricket teams and Organizing committee at P Sara Oval Stadium, Colombo.

A result has only been seen once in this big match, when D. S. Senanayake College won in 2014. All other encounters have ended as draws.
The one-day encounter which is played for the Aravinda de Silva Trophy, which began in the same year as the two-day match, has resulted in 4 victories for D. S Senanayake, 7 for Mahanama with 1 match producing no result.
Pathum Boteju, the Captain of Mahanama College has led his team to 2 outright wins and 8 first innings wins this season. The highest runs scorer in the team is Pawantha Weerasinghe with 926 runs to his name this season while Sonal Gamage who has taken 41 wickets to leads the wickets column.

S. Senanayaka College will be led by 4th year coloursman Pasindu Adithya who has scored 541 runs with one century this season. His team will be strengthened by the presence of All-rounder Muditha Lakshan who has represented the U19 Sri Lanka team and scored 1318 runs this season and left arm leg spinner Methushan Kumara who has taken 79 wickets.

These two schools have gifted so many great players to the Motherland with the living legend Aravinda de Silva, who is a product of D. S. Senanayake College, being one of them. Apart from de Silva, Hashan Thilakaratna, Kosala Kuruppuarachchi, Isuru Udana have also graduated from the same school. Danushka Gunathilaka is one of many players who have gone onto shine on the biggest stage for Sri Lanka from Mahanama College.
