Sri Lanka Air Force Open Squash Championship conducted and organized by Sri Lanka Squash Federation will be staged from 2nd to 9th of November at the SLAF Squash Complex in Ratmalana.
The tournament is considered a National Ranking tournament and all the top ranked Squash players are expected to participate. Most of the ranked players will be eyeing to polish their skills before the Senior National Squash Championship which is scheduled to be held in December this year.
Dilshan Gunawardena, Ravindu Laksiri and Gihan Suwaris will be the top contestants for the Men’s Open event Top seed Dilshan Gunawardena who remained unbeaten and came out as the jubilant Men’s open winner at SSC Open Squash Championship will be the top seed. Current junior National Champion and runners up at the Men’s open event of previous edition of the SLAF Open ,Ravindu Laksiri will be another tough contestant who will try his best to win the title as he had not being that successful in the Men’s open event this year. Gihan Suwaris who went on to beat both Dilshan and Ravindu in the Emperor Open Squash Championship will also try to defend his position.
Mihiliya Methsarani and Naduni Gunawardena will be the top contestants for the Women’s Open event. Mihiliya who had being performing really well both in the domestic and international Squash arena will be the top favorite .Naduni Gunawardena who stretched Mihiliya for a five setter in last year’s final will want to better her performance and win the title this year around.
In the junior events Shamil Wakeel, Udantha Hewage,Senindu Induwara Dharmathilaka,Druwinka Perera Mohomed Asmone,Heshan Balasooriya,Methmal Wood and Mohomed Hakim are expected to perform well in their respective age groups in the boys category
Fathoum Issadeen,Wasundara Suwaris, Kasuni Gunawardena, Saduni Gunawardena, Sameera Deen, Chanithma Sinaly and Devmini Gallage are expected to perform well in their respective age groups in the Girls category.
