Sri Lanka Rugby is reportedly all set to appoint former Wellington Rugby, CH& FC and Trinity College coach Matt Lee as the head coach in charge of the national fifteens side as they prepare for the Asia Division I Rugby Championship.
Matt Lee who coached Trinity College for a brief stint will be entrusted with the national duties as the fifteens format sees new light after being somewhat neglected last year.
Sri Lanka have managed to remain in the division I segment despite not partaking last year and will play Singapore, Philippines, and Chinese Taipei in the Asia Division I Rugby Championship that will take place from the 29th of May to the 1st of June in Taiwan.

An experienced coach in the fifteens format, Matt Lee will be looking to re-structure the Tuskers team with ample talent coming through the ranks of the eight clubs that played the Dialog Rugby League.

In addition, former national sevens and fifteens represent Haris Omar will take office as SLR’s Continuous Improvement Consultant for the tournament and is expected to continue in that role for a long stint.
Sri Lanka last played the Asia Rugby Division I Championship in 2017 under the captaincy of Roshan Weeraratne. The Tuskers finished second best to hosts Malaysia, falling short of qualification to the top tier.
