Wesley College Colombo launched their Singer Schools Rugby League 2019 run in ceremonial fashion last evening(2nd) as they prepare for a brand new season.

The league’s 7th placed finishers, Wesley College will be a team to watch out for this season with a series of key players retained from last year’s side.

Special invitee and former All Blacks great Rodney So’oialo, who is currently in the country on a brief stint with Trinity College graced the jersey awarding ceremony held at the college main hall.

“I see a lot of energy in this Wesley side for 2019. Hoping that they will finish on top with the championship” added former New Zealand represent commending the efforts of the team and the coaching staff.

New Zealand origin coach Paul Toia continues as head coach for the Wesleyites for a third successive term and he hopes that the team aspires not only in the sport but outside the game as well.

“I feel privileged to train these young boys and just as much as they enjoy the training, I hope that they excel in their academics and activities outside the rugby field”

The playing jerseys for the Wesleyites were handed over by the Zubair Dooray, whose son Murshid will lead the side for the 2019 season. Dooray was a former Wesley represent who went on to play for the national side later.

The Wesley College management also launched their official match ball for 2019 which they will use for the home games.

Wesley College will kick off their season on Sunday when they play Kingswood College for the Blaze Trophy.
