Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to an injury on his left ankle.
Having undergone a lengthy stretch of injuries and poor form, the pacer had made a comeback to the national side on the back of some remarkable performances in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, finishing as the highest wicket-taker for Sylhet Sixers with 22 scalps.
However, he sustained the injury while playing the team’s last league game against Chittagong Vikings on Friday, while attempting to take the catch of Mossadek Hossain and ended up twisting his ankle.
Taskin hobbled off the ground and it was later confirmed that he had damaged his ligament. “He is probably out for next four to six weeks as he damaged his ligament severely,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Saturday.
“It is certainly a huge blow as he was carrying a good rhythm and looked very impressive in the recent past,” he said.
Cricbuzz learnt that either pace bowler Ebadat Hossain or Shafiul Islam will replace Taskin in the 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series.
Taskin was also included in the Test squad and BCB is hopeful of his recovery by then.
