Off spinner Akila Dananjaya will fly to India with spin bowling coach Piyal Wijetunga early today (1st of February) in order to reassess his bowling action.
Akila was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first Test match between Sri Lanka and England in Galle late last year. Subsequently it was found that the young spinner’s elbow flexion exceeds the 15 degree tolerance level permitted under article 11.1 of the “ICC Regulation for The Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspected Illegal Bowling Action” when he bowls one of his common deliveries, the off break.

He was suspended from bowling in international cricket from the 10th of December 2018 onwards.
This was a major hit to Sri Lanka’s World Cup plans as Akila was the go-to man for the Sri Lankan captain. He was also the top ODI wicket taker for Sri Lanka in 2018.
