The Isipathana College cricketers returned from Kurunegala today, 21st January, after playing St. Anne’s College in a traditional fixture of the Singer U19 Division I Tournament 2018/19. Four other games of the tournament also got underway today.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat first and posted 259 runs for their first-innings. Lasith Warnakulasuriya anchored the innings with a solid 93 runs while Isipathana skipper, Madushika Sandaruwan topped the bowling chart with 3 scalps to his name.
Trinity, Ananda and Wesley fight to draw
Ashen Gunawardena led the batting for Isipathana College with 67 runs to his name as the boys from Colombo settled to 167 runs in the first-innings. Risitha Perera and Pasindu Thennakoon both picked up 3 wickets each to leave the Pathanians stranded.
The double-greens captain, Madushika, who never seems to get enough support from his team, chipped in with a surprise spell in the second-innings picking up 4 quick wickets for just 10 runs. Yet, it was not enough to bounce back. The game came to a draw after seeing 16 exciting overs in the St. Anne’s second-innings with 7 wickets for 25 runs.

Adithya Siriwardena top-scored with 61 runs while the Dharmapala skipper, Chamindu Samarasinghe had a good day at work with 4 wickets under his belt.
The visitors soon took control of the game as the host came out with the bat in hand. The boys from down south picked 4 quick wickets for 69 runs before the close of play.

The Thomians traveled a long way across the island to fight the Antonians at their den. The visitors seemed to be completely at home at the end of day one as they stopped only at a massive 336 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Harindu Jayasekara and Gishanthika Jayaweera made half-centuries for St. Thomas’ while Woshitha Apsara is at the crease on 49.
The left-arm specialist of St. Anthony’s College, Kaveesha Dulanjana bagged a fifer for consolation.

Winnings the toss, Ananda College decided to bat first on a track on which 2 double centuries were scored in the previous two games. The Ananda boys staged an epic surprise managing only 136 runs. Daminda Reshan hit a fighting 56 runs before running out of partners.
St. Benedict’s College in reply were at 149 runs for the loss of 5 wickets by close of play. Kaveesha Jayathilaka and Kaviru Perera are at the crease on 46 runs and 25 runs respectively.
