The first Super ‘A’ Grade Tournament of the year hits Colombo on the 26th January at the clay courts of the Sinhalese Sports Club.
The 2019 edition will be an extra special one for the club as SSC commemorates their 120th year. Established in 1899, SSC is one of the oldest and most prestigious Sports Clubs in Sri Lanka.

The SSC Open Tennis Championships has since recent been moved up to the first quarter of the Annual Tennis Calendar, hence will kick off 2019 in grand style. The tournament will commence on the 26th January and will see its final rounds on the 17th of February and is proudly sponsored by the Tennis House Committee of SSC.
The event has attracted over 750 national level players over the last few years and this year it is only expected to grow in number. The tournament will be played in 5 junior age groups and the open events for the Seniors to play for honors. The veterans will also have their say in the Over 35, 45 and 55 age groups.
Last years’ Women’s Champion was one of the youngest in the history of Sri Lanka Tennis, winning at just 14 years of age. Anjalika Kurera clinched the Women’s Open title by defeating tournament top seed Janali Manamperi in a walk-in-the-park final and will return to defend her silverware.
Coming out of retirement, Dineshkanthan Thangarajah proved to his peers his wrath by winning his 5th SSC title and is hoping to return to the championship this year as well. Last years’ Runner-up, Yasitha De Silva will be eyeing for the title in this momentous year, to start the year on a high.

Former National Champion, Amritha Muutaiah still holds the record for winning the most number of Singles crowns at SSC with 7 Women’s’ Championships in a row.
The SSC Tennis Championship will be conducted according to the highest standards as stipulated by the International Tennis Federation and the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.
Following the Open Ranking Tournament, the SSC Tennis 10’s event for the 10 and under (10/9/8) generation will follow with continuous backing from Perera & Sons Pvt. Ltd.
Three weeks of International Wheel Chair action will then follow at the clay courts with the ITF SSC Open Wheelchair Tennis Championship taking it’s 10th consecutive turn. As previous years, this will attract both local national players and top international players from various parts of the world.
